Apostle Femi Lazarus Urges FG: Show Pensioners the Same Love as Our Female Football Stars
In a heartfelt Sunday sermon, Apostle Femi Lazarus has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to treat the nation’s pensioners with the same honor and care recently shown to Nigeria’s gifted women footballers.
The respected preacher drew a powerful comparison, noting that while female athletes have received national praise and financial rewards, many elderly retirees are struggling to feed, pay for medicine, or even survive.
“We celebrate our champions on the field, and rightly so,” Lazarus said. “But we must also remember the champions who built this country our pensioners before they leave us in pain and poverty.”
Apostle Femi Lazarus Highlights Pensioners in Crisis
Recent reports show that thousands of pensioners are still waiting for the implementation of the ₦758 billion Treasury Bond meant to settle decades of unpaid arrears under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

Many have died waiting for payment.
-
Others live in extreme hardship, without access to healthcare or proper nutrition.

The Federal Government has previously pledged to increase pensions, provide free healthcare for retirees, and improve living conditions. However, slow implementation has left pensioners frustrated and desperate.
For Apostle Lazarus, this is not about politics it’s about fairness. His call is a reminder that while we celebrate today’s athletes, we must also honor yesterday’s nation-builders.
